Differences between Parquet vs Vinyl Flooring
By understanding these differences, you can make no mistake in choosing the best materials to beautify your home. Check out the differences below!
1. Compound Materials
The first difference between vinyl and parquet floors is the materials that make them up. Parquet is composed of HDF, which is a mixture of natural wood fiber and adhesive. The composition is 80% natural wood fiber and 20% adhesive, making it look like normal wood.
Vinyl has different constituent materials, namely PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), a flexible and durable plastic. It has several layers which make it sturdy, soft, and has patterns and motifs like real wood.
The differences in these constituent materials affect their application. For example, you can use vinyl on the outside of the house, bathroom, or floors with high humidity. This is different from parquet, which is only suitable for dry and closed rooms.
2. Differences in the level of resistance and durability of the materials
Both materials are relatively durable, especially after the development of surface coating technology. Both are resistant to small scratches, such as due to friction between two objects, scratches from sharp objects that accidentally fall, and so on.
This protective layer is also able to protect the surface from stains. This ensures that the motifs and patterns remain sharp, bright, and long-lasting. This is why, you don't need to worry about the room looking dull and unaesthetic anymore.
The difference lies in resistance to moisture. Parquet made from 80% wood is prone to damp areas, so it can become porous and be attacked by termites. Unlike vinyl, PVC material is waterproof, making vinyl flooring termite-proof and anti-porous.
3. Differences in Motifs and Patterns
The pattern on the vinyl floor is the result of a design or print using a special computer. So even though the material is not wood, it can have motifs and textures like wood. The types of patterns are also very diverse, from crystal to deep.
Meanwhile, the pattern of parquet wood floors follows the basic wood material, is more natural and sharper. In terms of texture and sound when you step on it, it also gives a sensation like real wood. This type is suitable for people who like a more natural feel.
4. Differences in How to Install It
The final difference lies in the way it is installed. Parquet floors have a click system at each edge. So, you can install it without needing additional nails or adhesive. Just attach the ends and strengthen the connection with a hammer.
Unlike vinyl, installation must use a special adhesive. Use adhesive according to the type of base so that the bond is strong. This makes the vinyl floor durable, looks neat, and lasts a long time.
There is one important note when installing these two types of flooring, namely make sure the connection is tight. This tight connection can prevent water, dust and dirt from hiding between the connections. This is dangerous because it can damage the floor.
